A useful solar quote starts with your electricity habits and your roof. Here is how to compare system sizes without relying on a single headline number.
Start with your electricity use
Collect recent bills and, if available, your retailer’s interval usage data. Note when you use electricity: a household running appliances during daylight has different needs from one whose largest loads start in the evening. Tell your consultant about planned changes, such as an electric vehicle or electric hot water.
Compare the whole design
The panel capacity on a quote is only part of the picture. Roof space, shade, orientation and inverter specifications also shape the design. Ask for the proposed panel layout and an explanation of the expected generation. Two homes buying the same nominal system size can have different outcomes.
Make quotes easier to compare
Request exact panel and inverter model numbers, installation scope and separate warranty terms. Ask which site works and connection costs are included. Treat advertised savings as estimates and request the assumptions behind them. Pylon can help you compare a design with your usage, roof and future plans before you decide.
